Loop Head Coastal Tour
We’re off to Tour West Clare!
Where The Sky Meets The Sea
The area known as Loop Head embodies the ‘Wild’ in Wild Atlantic Way. West Clare is an ever changing dramatic seascape as the wild waves crash to cliffs under vast skies.
We will visit the Victorian seaside resort of Kilkee. It is a picturesque town with a horseshoe shaped beach and amazing cliffs In fact we think these cliffs equal the ‘Cliffs of Moher’ in their magnificence but you can decide that for yourself!
Next stop will be to see the geographical wonder of the ‘Bridges of Ross’. The salt sea breeze blowing round these naturally formed sea arches will definitely impact on your body and soul.
In the 19th century, the local landlord refused to allow the building of a Catholic Church. So instead, a local carpenter, Owen Collins, built a large wooden box on wheels complete with an altar. It was rolled onto the beach at low-tide, allowing them to practice their faith.
Rebecca’s top tip: Loop Head is on my doorstep and I love it! It can be seen in half a day but I’d recommend a full day.
Lunch at The Long Dock, Carrigaholt.
