The Wild Atlantic Way Clare
Breathtaking Views of This Rugged Coastline
The Cathedral Of Nature
This is a great and refreshing Coastal Driving tour starting at Loop Head lighthouse which is Ireland’s closest point to America! Our second stop is the utterly amazing ‘Bridges of Ross’ naturally formed stone sea arches; the views and the breeze at this stunning stop will blow away any cobwebs for good.
The big challenge of the day will be to decide which sea cliffs you prefer; Kilkee Cliffs or the Cliffs of Moher. Rising over 300 feet from sea level the Cliffs of Moher are Ireland’s No.1 visitor attraction but I think that the cliffs at Kilkee offer serious competition.
Spanish Point: The area is so named after ships of the Spanish Armada ran aground in 1588 when 1,000 men lost their lives. An area of real Wild Atlantic waves for us to explore.
Lahinch: nestled at the head of Liscannor the shape of the bay which creates Altantic breakers that attract surfers from all over the world. Surfer numbers have exceeded golf visitors of late to this seaside town
Doolin: it doesn’t get more picturesque than this traditional fishing village which is also the heart and soul of traditional music in Clare.
Fanore: famous for it’s long beach and extensive sand dunes system complete with rare pink sea urchins.
Black Head Views: Stunning views of Galway Bay and Connemara.
Ballyvaughan Pier: where we will have a pint while sitting outside Monks Restaurant.
We will stop off at Hazel Mountain Chocolate factory to sample some handmade chocolates.
Corkscrew Hill: amazing views of Galway Bay and is itself a much talked about piece of the Burren.
Poulnabrone Portal Tomb: At 5,800 years old it is the earliest megalithic burial site in Ireland and older then the pyramids of Egypt!
Castleconnell Fort: a great example of an original fort and excellent audio visual interpretative centre.
Lemanagh Castle: a fortified Manor House, strategic stronghold of the O’Briens.
The Burren was frequently visited by the Author J.R.R Tolkien and the area is said to have inspired the setting for ‘Middle Earth’ in his ‘Lord of the Rings’ Series. The alien monuments and tortured limestone landscape a perfect setting to inspire him creatively!
